Please consider your civic duty by serving as a juror in the criminal trial of King Creon, ancient Greece's mythical king of the city of Thebes! Sophomore World Studies students will try Creon for behaving contrary to the laws of nature in the punishment of his niece, Antigone, for breaking his law. One team will serve as prosecutors, and another will defend Creon. Students will call characters from Sophocles's play Antigone to the witness stand, along with political philosophers such as Plato and Voltaire. As is the case in a real court of law, no familiarity with the fact situation is expected, nor will you need to engage in any preparation. Just come and help us assess students' ability to use evidence and thoughtful characterization to make their case.
Trials take place over the course of three days, with two trials scheduled for each of the following class periods:
Tues., Oct. 13
8:00 - 9:29am
AND/OR 1:31 - 3:00pm
Thurs., Oct. 15
8:00 - 9:29am
AND/OR 1:31 - 3:00pm
Fri., Oct. 16
8:00 - 9:29am
AND/OR 11:16am - 12:45pm
If interested, please email Ms. Seveska (anne_seveska@newtechhigh.org) and/or Mr. Serene (tserene@newtechhigh.org) to sign up for a jury. Include "Creon Jury" in the subject, and let us know specifically which class(-es) you can attend. Thanks for your consideration!
