Message from the Principal

It's great to have your students back at school after three weeks off! I hope your winter recess provided you with some extra time with your loved ones!

Last night (Thursday, Jan 16th) was our second annual "New Tech Celebrates Success" awards ceremony. This event is a celebration of students who showed growth and/or proficiency on the CSTs that they took last Spring. To receive one of these awards, students must be enrolled at New Tech at the time of the test, therefore our current 9th graders are not eligible for an award, but they will be in the future! This year 142 sophomores, juniors and seniors were awarded a $50 academic scholarship to be used during their senior year at New Tech. Congratulations to all who were recognized. If your student was not able to attend last night's award ceremony, they will recieve their certificate Friday during Advisory.

Please join me for a "Coffee With The Principal" on Monday, January 27th, from 8:15 to 9:30 am. No need to RSVP, just drop in at the office and sign in. I look forward to this chance to share ideas, answer questions, and receive suggestions for improvement of our school.

If your student is taking a Napa Valley College class that meets on a Friday, we want you to be aware of a couple of limitations:

  • Student must attend Advisory every Friday, from 8:50 to 9:55 am. Therefore your student shall not enroll in a conflicting college class.
  • In order to miss Friday sessions because of a college class, your student must provide proof of enrollment to Mrs Martinez-Ramirez, and be in good academic standing in their New Tech classes. If your student is invited to a Friday session by any teacher that conflicts with his or her college class, the student must check in with the teacher in advance and request a different time to meet.
  • There are three "regular schedule" Fridays  (4 day weeks) where the student will be expected to attend 1st, 3rd and 5th period. Your student may need to miss college on those three days, or arrange in advance with teacher permission to miss the New Tech class.
  • When students leave for college, they must check out through the office every time, and check back in with the office when they return. Students are expected to return to school after their college classes if the classes end before 3:00 pm.
If you or your student has any questions about college classes, please call the office at 707-259-8557.

Other news:
  • See below for information about Open Enrollment. If your student would like to attend a different high school next year, the Open Enrollment paperwork has a strict deadline at the end of January.
  • If you know anyone interested in applying to become a New Tech student, applications are available online at our website: http://newtechhigh.org/  Applications are due before 4:00 pm on January 31st.
Sincerely,
Michelle Spencer
