Forestry Challenge

What: Outdoors, forests, team work, camping, competition...
if this sounds like fun to you, you may be interested in representing New Tech at the California Forestry Challenge!  This is a challenge that schools from all over California meet to take on.  Past student participants have referred to it as "PBL boot camp", but it's an excellent learning and bonding experience!  Since it's a student challenge, the role of students is to compete, the role of chaperones is to drive, bond with students, and enjoy the trip.

When: Wed, October 24th 2:30pm - Sat, October 27th 3pm of 2012

Where: Will leave from New Tech High and drive to El Dorado County (near Tahoe).  Will stay in cabins with students at the camp.

Cost: Cost to parent volunteer is nothing - includes cabin, all meals, and a t shirt.  Parent, however will need to be approved as a driver through the district (a pretty quick/easy process, they just want to make sure you're a safe driver/have a safe vehicle - I'll help you through this) and will need to be fingerprinted (a plus if you are already!)  Also, parent will need to be willing/able to drive at least 5 people in their vehicle, the more the better!

Who: You will be in the company of teachers Christie Jouaneh and Tom Wolf.  Students will include volunteers who will attend several preliminary challenge prep meetings.  Students will pay a fee to participate in the event.  We are in need of two parent volunteers/drivers.  Priority will be given to parents who have been fingerprinted and can drive 5+ students, but please contact us even if you don't fit that bill!
