Message from the Principal

Hello Everyone,

We are three weeks into spring semester and New Tech is thriving.  Our school community is settling in and seniors are looking at the finish line.

We have some exciting events coming up!

Movie Night:  Friday, January 24th Guardians of the Galaxy is playing at New Tech’s Movie Night, from 7 - 10.  Cost to join in the fun is $4 and food, snacks and popcorn are included.

Super Saturday:  The first Super Saturday of the spring semester is this Saturday, January 25th, from 8:15 am to 12:30 pm.  Students are encouraged to come and to get additional assistance in getting their school work done.

School Dance:  There will be a dance at New Tech, Friday, February 6th from 7 - 11.  The theme for the dance is “Valentine/No Valentine.”  The cost is $5 and food and snacks will be available.  We are still in need of chaperones.  If you are interested, contact Kimi Meigs at kmeigs @newtechhigh.org.

Mock Trial:  It is Mock Trial season again.  Trials begin next Tuesday evening at the Napa County Courthouse, 1111 - 3rd Street, 2nd Floor.  Our students will be competing January 27th against Napa, February 3rd against Vintage, February 17th against Justin and February 24th against Sonoma.  If you haven’t ever been to one of these competitions, I encourage you to go. It is exciting to see our students thinking on their feet and responding knowledgably and articulately in a court of law.

Internship:  As many of you may have heard, Jessica Gaul, who has overseen our Internship program has accepted a new position as the coordinator of College and Career Education for Napa Valley Unified School District.  At the end of January, she will relocate her office to the District Office.  What does this mean for us?  Andrew Biggs, our government and economics teacher,  will be filling in the gap for the rest of the year.  Jessica will continue to be a resource to us as we make this transition.  We are thrilled that Andrew has not only accepted the challenge, but is truly excited about it.  Andrew communicates well with the students and we have every confidence that the Internship program will continue without a hiccup.

State of the School:  We have very busy groups who help finance New Tech’s educational programs;  Penguin Parent Club, Friends of New Tech (FONT), which encompasses Family Giving, and New Tech staff.  As New Tech families, you contribute to these groups and trust them to allocate the funds.  Please attend the State of the School meeting, Monday, February 9th from 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm in the the Cyber Cafe and find out what your donations have supported in the past and what the allocations are to support this year.

Volunteers Needed:  La Strada and the Penguin Parent Club Annual Golf Tournament are right around the corner.

Until next time…...as always ….it’s a great day to be a penguin.

Kathy Summers
Interim Principal
