The school year is off and running. I wanted to thank those parents who contributed food and time to our Buddy Breakfast on Tuesday. It was a great way for students to get to know each other while enjoying a breakfast buffet. We ask all New Tech parents to contribute 15 volunteer hours of service to our school. For more information about ways you can get involved that are aligned with your interests and skills, please join us at our School Business Night. Here is a run-down of important parent meetings that we urge you to attend:
- Monday, August 19th: Back to School Night. Join us from 6:00-6:30 pm for an optional Echo Training session. You are encouraged to bring your own computing device if you have one! The regular event begins at 6:30 pm in the Cyber Cafe. You will meet all of your child's teachers and learn vital information for this school year, including a description about our new Friday schedule.
- Monday, August 19th: Coffee With the Principal. This morning meeting is voluntary, and a great way to meet school administration and other parents. This first "Coffee" is geared towards parents who are new to New Tech. Veteran parents are welcome to come and share their knowledge about our school! Check in at the Office at 8:15 am and join me for Coffee With The Principal.
- Monday, August 26th: Parent Business Night and Ice Cream Social. Learn all the different ways you can easily meet your 15 volunteer hours. Special training sessions will be available to help you learn how to use Echo, x2Vol (our volunteer hour tracking software), and a new Counseling and Internship program called Naviance. This important night is not to be missed, and it will conclude with an Ice-Cream Social hosted by your Penguin Parent Club. Join us at 6:30 pm.
Communication with you is very important to us. Stay connected in the following ways~
- The New Tech Parent Bulletin is published twice a month. We use a "Robo-Caller" that sends a phone call and an email to you, letting you know that it has been newly published. If you don't get these phone calls or emails, then we need you to contact Mrs Cherrington, our Registrar / Attendance clerk and update your contact information.
- Follow us on Twitter. Twitter is informal and fun, and notifications straight to your cell phone. For anyone without internet or email, Twitter is a great substitute! We publish links to Twitter every time the Parent Bulletin is published.
- Follow me @RustyClover. As Principal, I try to take pictures and post informal updates several times a week featuring general information about life at New Tech.
- Follow the school @NewTechHigh
- "Like" us on Facebook to get current information about our school and our students.
We have Dell Netbooks available for students who need them. Your student can sign up for a netbook in the office. Once the student and parent has signed the contract, we will begin the process of setting up a netbook as a loaner for the entire school year.
Looking forward to seeing you all at Back to School and Parent Business Nights!
Regards,
Michelle Spencer, Principal
