Message from the Principal

Welcome to a new school year! I hope your summer was relaxing and full of joy. We are very excited about welcoming your student (back) to New Tech, and have planned out a purposeful first week that will kick off what is certain to be an amazing school year.

Important Dates:

  • Thursday, August 9th: Student School Business Day. Your student will pick up his or her start-of-year packets, as well as receiving his or her schedule. Plan on staying approximately one hour. 9th graders arrive at 9 am; 10th graders at 10 am, and 11th and 12th graders arrive at 11 am.
  • Monday, August 13th: First Day of School. School starts promptly at 8 am.
  • Thursday, August 16th: 6:30-8:00 pm Parents, please plan on attending our School Business Night.
  • Friday, August 17th: Late start Friday (every Friday!)~ School starts promptly at 8:45 am. It is okay for your student to arrive early and study in the CyberCafe.
  • Monday, August 20th: Coffee-With-The-Principal. This first Coffee will be an informal gathering specifically geared for parents of students NEW to New Tech. Plan on joining us at 8:15 am and meeting other "new" parents.
Look for a complete set of Important Dates to add to your family calendar in the packet that your student receives on Thursday. I look forward to seeing parents at New Tech for various opportunities, especially our School Business Night, our Open House, and our Coffee-with-the-Principals!

If your student needs to have a change made to his or her schedule, the procedure will be:
  • During Advisory on the first day of school, the teacher will collect sign ups for students needing schedule changes. Our counselor will then send call slips to the students, and meet with them one on one during the first week of school, and make the required changes.
  • Seniors wanting to drop a New Tech class to make openings in their schedules for College Classes must provide proof that they have successfully enrolled in a college class before their schedules will be changed.
If your student would like to lease one of our Dell Netbooks, sign ups will occur during the August 9th School Business Day. Priority will be given to low-income families first. The cost of the lease is $80 for the entire school year (this covers the cost of our insurance). Dell Netbooks will be issued to students during the second week of school, and in the interim students have access to Desktop computers in each of their classes.

Please review the rest of this bulletin for information relating to arranging car pools, and other District start-of-the-year business!

Sincerely,
Michelle Spencer, Principal
