Community College Classes

Dear parents and students,

I have encouraged students to try to register for a college class this summer either through Napa Valley College or any other Community College.  Students are required to complete 12 Community College units to earn a NTHS diploma.  These classes need to be transferrable to a four year institution.  For an easy list of what to choose from please turn to the "IGETC" curriculum. The IGETC List also known as "Intersegmental General Eduction Transfer Curriculum" can be found on page 25 of the Napa Valley College Summer Schedule.  Parents and students can access it online by clicking here

All of the classes listed here are transferable to a four year CST/UC university!  Students are encouraged to take classes only from this list in future years.

As you may have heard, summer school availability of classes is very limited at Napa Valley College.  I want to encourage students to look for classes at other community colleges that may offer online classes.  I wil send a link to 15 Community Colleges that offer online classes.  Please see: ECHO
Counseling 101 file and click on "online college options."

Specific Information for Napa Valley College:
1. Any high school student trying to register, cannot do so until May 29th ( contrary to what the website states, they are included in the "walk in reg."- even if they are matriculated)
2. All the Spanish classes offered are in Spain. There are NO Spanish classes offered on campus at all.
3.  It is possible to add a class even though the class may appear full on "web advisor" (some NVC full time students save a spot but end up not attending summer session).  If your student wants to add a class please have them attend class early on the first day to try to receive an "add card."  Students may then submit the add card to admissions and records.

Ms. Martinez-Ramirez
