Attendance

Dear Parents,

It is important that your students get to school on time or even before class starts.  They need to be in their chairs ready to learn as soon as the class period begins.  Many of our students are arriving to school late and many more are late getting to class from break and lunch.  Our 7th period math support class is also a victim of excessive tardies.

Conversations and verbal commitments have helped a little with the situation yet we still have students that are habitually tardy.  Ms. Plowman, Ms. Cherrington and I (Mr. Solberg) have developed a system of consequences for these students and we are asking you for your support and encouragement. The Aeries system automatically prints a form letter to be sent to parents and guardians for students with 5 tardies (and for every 5 tardies afterward).  These letters are sent to parents by the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month by the Registrar and a record is kept in Aeries.

In addition, New Tech High is implementing the following habitual tardy procedures:

Students that receive 3 tardies in a week receive a phone call home by the Campus Supervisor.

When a student is tardy 15 times, a ConnectEd voicemail message and email are sent to parents/guardians on the 2nd and 3rd Monday of the month.  The message instructs the parent/guardian to attend, with their students, a meeting at 7:30am on Thursday of that week with the Assistant Principal.  They will also be informed that their student will need to meet at school for campus beautification Saturday for three hours.

Students that continue to be tardy, will continue the consequence above after every 5 tardies.

Students that fail to comply with these consequences will lose privileges which may include loss of off-grounds passes, no extra-curricular activities, no dances and other events and daily check ins at lunch.  For seniors, the consequences may include no prom or senior trip without a refund.

I believe we can beat this challenge if we all work together.  I hope that none of your students are part of this minority of students and that we will have very few that  need to lose these privileges.

Regards,

Tom Solberg, Assistant Principal
