California Association for the Gifted Conference

I am delighted to announce an exciting event: The CAG (California Association for the Gifted) Northern California Symposium for educators and parents, entitled Maximizing Student Potential: Cultivating Creativity and Critical Thinking.  This event will take place at the brand new American Canyon High School on Saturday, November 12th, 2011, 8:30 AM-4:00 PM.  In the morning, Dan Peters, Ph.D. (psychologist specializing in gifted youth and their families) is among the presenters who will address the entire group.  The keynote will be delivered by Sandra Kaplan, Ed.D., who developed the icons of depth and complexity in the mid-90's and is an internationally known expert in gifted education.  After lunch, there will be three afternoon workshop slots, each with a menu of 8 or more offerings for parents and teachers.

Parent workshops will cover such topics as perfectionism, motivation/underachievement, anxiety, twice exceptional children, Mindset (work of Carol Dweck), social/emotional needs, cultivating creativity, nurturing giftedness, emotional intelligence, intensity, sensitivity, other gifted characteristics, and guidance for parenting our children through all this!

Educator workshops will cover differentiation in depth, meeting needs of gifted middle and high schoolers, extension menus, using technology and wikis to differentiate, increasing complexity math classes, writing and analyzing high level narratives, promoting creativity and curiosity in the classroom, using creativity to teach a rigorous curriculum, and much more!

Please come and enjoy a day with an anticipated 600 parents and teachers from throughout Northern CA who share a passion for meeting the needs of GATE students, both at home and at school.

Space is limited, so please register soon at www.cagifted.org. Cost is $75 ($50 for CAG members) including a delicious catered lunch, morning refreshments, parking, good company, and excellent presentations.  Please feel free to contact me if you have questions.  Flyer with more info is linked here: PLEASE FORWARD THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW who might be interested: friends, relatives, teachers, etc.  Please ask them to help spread the word too.

Be well,
Karen Littell, Symposium Coordinator
